Oregon is bringing back one of its own. Former Duck safety Verone McKinley III is joining the program’s staff in a personnel and recruiting position, according to reports from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

McKinley, 25, played at Oregon from 2018 to 2021 and left a significant mark on the program. He became just the second Duck to be named a consensus All-American, joining Kayvon Thibodeaux. Along the way, he earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2021 and was also named a freshman All-American in 2019.

After his time in Eugene, McKinley signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals. Now, he’s back at Oregon, helping the Ducks off the field.

One area where McKinley could make an impact is in Texas recruiting. A native of Carrollton, Texas, he knows the region well. Under Dan Lanning, Oregon has been very active in the Lone Star State, signing 11 Texas high school recruits since 2022.

McKinley is a well-liked player amongst the fan base and was known for his energy, physicality, and playmaking ability. If he brings that tenacity he was known for as a player to recruiting, the Ducks may have just landed a budding superstar in personnel.
