Micah Parsons proves his championship mindset for Packers even before taking a single snap in Green Bay
Parsons spoke with the media as a Packers player for the first time.
Micah Parsons talked for the first time as a member of the Green Bay Packers organization. One day after the Packers pulled off one of the most shocking NFL trades of all time, the star edge defender went to Green Bay for his introductory press conference.
The mindset is obvious. Even though his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys ended in ugly fashion, the All-Pro is ready to play—and help the Packers win games.
“Winning is everything to me. I don’t think you’ll find a more competitive person on the team or anywhere in the NFL,” Parsons highlighted. “We can go shoot hoops, throw a baseball, run 40-yard sprints. I’ll wait until you get tired if you’re faster than me. I don’t think you’ll find someone more competitive. I haven’t been on this stage before, so I don’t know exactly what it takes, but I have a funny feeling this program does. I trust Coach LaFleur, I really feel like we can do it, and I really want to win.”
In his four seasons with the Cowboys, Parsons went to the playoffs three times. However, he only won one game, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. The most recent loss, after the 2023 season, was exactly to the Packers.
Self-awareness
Micah Parsons knows exactly how much the Packers invested in him. Beyond the two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark, Green Bay gave him a four-year, $186 million extension—plus $2 million available via incentives.
“I’m not going to lie, there are a lot of expectations, and I’d be a fool to think there isn’t pressure in the position I’m stepping into,” Parsons stressed. “But that’s a blessing. It means they believe in me that much, that I’m that much of a future in this organization, and they’ve shown it in every way. That alone shows me the type of person I need to be in this building every day.”
Trade process
Parsons requested a trade out of Dallas on Aug. 1, but it doesn’t mean he had the option to choose his destination. The defender didn’t have a no-trade clause, so the Cowboys could send him anywhere in the NFL. He is happy, though, with the outcome.
“I’m pretty lucky because I understand the rich history of the Packers and that they had interest in me,” Parsons added. “I know they already had a tough team in the NFC, and I was geared up, ready to play them, looking for revenge. But now I’m on the other side, adding to this rich history, playing with these guys, suiting up, and playing. I’m very excited.”
Now, Micah Parsons has a little more than a week to get ready. On Sept. 7, the Packers open their regular season against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. And the new star of the team is expected to be ready to impact from the jump.
