Ohio State star Jermaine Mathews Jr. sent a firm message to the SEC after the Buckeyes took care of the Texas Longhorns
The Ohio State star had to do some talking after the big win.
Dating back to last season and how it ended for the Ohio State Buckeyes, the team in Columbus is on quite a run. Ohio State’s Week 1 victory over the Texas Longhorns marked another huge win for the Buckeyes.
Since their loss to Michigan to end last year’s regular season, Ohio State has beaten Texas twice, Oregon, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. That defeat to Michigan seemed to be the turning point, and Ryan Day’s team has been rolling ever since.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. made headlines again after the Buckeyes’ win over Texas with a message to the SEC
Ohio State held the Longhorns scoreless until the fourth quarter in a 14-7 victory. Dating back to last season, the Buckeyes are now 3-0 against the SEC, and that has players talking. While jogging off the field after the game, Mathews was asked about the SEC. His response was clear:
“We run that, we run that,” Mathews said. The Ohio State cornerback forced the only turnover in the game when he intercepted a pass from Arch Manning.
This isn’t the first time Mathews has spoken out about the SEC. Last season, when Tennessee came into Columbus with plenty of hype, Ohio State blew out the Volunteers, and Mathews again declared that the Buckeyes ran the SEC.
The rivalry between the Big Ten and SEC has only grown in recent years, fueled by debates and playoff matchups between the two conferences. With the Big Ten claiming the last two national championships, and Ohio State looking like a contender once again, the Buckeyes are making it clear—they expect to stay in that conversation.
