Dante Moore’s first start in an Oregon Ducks uniform wasn’t just smooth but a statement. And Big Ten Network analyst Jake Butt didn’t hold back on what it could mean for his future.

Butt sees NFL future for Moore

During Oregon’s dominant 59–13 win over Montana State, Butt shared a conversation he had with Ducks offensive coordinator Will Stein. Stein told him, “When it’s all said and done, I believe Dante Moore has a chance to be the best I’ve ever seen.” For a coordinator who has recently worked with elite talent such as Dillon Gabriel, as last season, that’s an eye-opening endorsement. Butt was impressed enough to echo it on air Tuesday on the Big Ten Network, adding his own bold projection: Moore has the tools to be a top-10 NFL Draft pick.

“I think Dante Moore will be a top ten pick. There is a formula here that Oregn follows, which is to get a transfer quarterback, Bo Nix, and get a transfer quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, and both those guys were phenomenal. But Dante Moore is a different level of talent.

The freshman’s debut stats back up the hype: 18-of-23 for 213 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers, and a 199.1 passer rating. Beyond the box score, Moore showed poise in the pocket, arm strength, and an ability to make quick reads – all traits NFL scouts value.

Oregon a quarterback pipeline

But what makes Moore’s rise even more compelling is how he fits into Oregon’s quarterback lineage. The Ducks have produced a steady pipeline of stars over the past decade: Marcus Mariota, the 2014 Heisman winner and No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft; Justin Herbert, the hometown hero turned franchise QB for the Los Angeles Chargers; and most recently, Bo Nix, who rewrote Oregon’s passing record books before being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Now, Moore may be next in line. If his trajectory follows the same arc, Oregon could cement itself as one of the premier QB factories in college football.

Yes, Montana State isn’t Big Ten competition, and this was just Week 1. However, Moore’s composure, accuracy, and maturity don’t usually show up in a debut. If he continues to grow, his name may soon join Oregon’s modern quarterback royalty – Mariota, Herbert, Nix, and maybe Moore.

For now, Ducks fans can enjoy the ride. But it’s clear: Moore’s ceiling looks sky high.
