Packers have two big reasons for concern ahead of regular season opener against the Lions, and it’s something they can’t control
They just hope for the best.
The Green Bay Packers released on Wednesday their first injury report of the 2025 regular season, and there are two specific reasons for concern. Cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) and wide receiver Jayden Reed (foot) did not practice ahead of the season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Hobbs and Reed are handling injuries
Nate Hobbs, the big defensive addition the Packers made in free agency this year, had a minor knee surgery in early August. Theoretically, he was expected to return in three weeks and be ready in time to play the first regular season games. At the time, the Packers indicated that Hobbs could have played through the injury, but since there was enough time to recover, the team went the prudent route.
However, it’s been four weeks since the surgery, and Hobbs is just doing light individual work. It’s unclear at this point when he will return, even though the Packers expect him on the field soon. Hobbs has missed 16 games over the past three seasons.
Jayden Reed reportedly suffered a Jones fracture in his foot. This is a more detailed issue, but Reed did practice on Monday—although there wasn’t an injury report that day.
After practice, Reed told the media that the plan was for him to sit and rehab on Wednesday. He expects to be limited throughout the week, but there is still a decent chance that he will be available on Sunday.
More injury notes
> Recently-acquired edge rusher Micah Parsons was limited at practice due to his back injury, but the Packers don’t seem overly concerned with his availability for Sunday. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that the coaching staff has had multiple meetings to integrate Parsons, with specific usage in mind to maximize him against the Lions.
> Quarterback Jordan Love still had a protection on his left thumb, but he was a full participant.
> Center Elgton Jenkins, who didn’t practice on Monday, returned on Wednesday and was limited due to a hip injury.
> The other limited participants were safety Zayne Anderson (knee), edge defender Barryn Sorrell (knee), wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf), and wide receiver Savion Williams (hamstring).
> On the Lions, there were two DNPs: linebacker Trevor Nowaske (elbow) and running back Sione Vaki (hamstring). Guard Kayode Awosika (shoulder) and wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (illness) were limited.
