Jahan Dotson is already proving that the Eagles have a new player in Week 1 win over Cowboys
So he’s not a 1st round bust!?
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson is already proving he’s not the same player that the Birds originally traded for last fall.
In Week 1’s 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Doston caught a 51-yard pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts during a crucial third-down situation in the second quarter, which ultimately set Saquon Barkley up for a touchdown run.
“365 days ago, Week 1 of last year, that ball is probably not going up. We didn’t have that trust,” Dotson admitted to reporters following the game.
Dotson finished Thursday night, leading the Eagles’ receiving room with three catches for 59 yards. Tight end Dallas Goedert followed behind him with seven catches for 44 yards. Philly’s No. 1 wideout A.J. Brown was targeted once.
“How about Jahan Dotson coming and making some huge plays today?” Sirianni said in the post-game press conference after reporters questioned him about Brown’s lack of targets. “A huge third-down catch that equaled points on a third and really long. A 51-yard gain. Another on a scramble. I get it, you want to ask a lot of the negatives, but man, there were some positives too. And Jahan — that is such a huge ability to have when you have the other guys that they’re keeping on and then Jahan comes in and makes the plays that he does. Again, I know the story will be A.J. only got one target until the fourth quarter, but how about Jahan Dotson playing a heck of a game?”
Jahan Dotson Looked Like a Bust in 2024
Just before the 2024 NFL season, Philly acquired wide receiver Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Commanders, while sending a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks to Washington.
Dotson was a 16th overall pick by the Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft following a standout career at Penn State. But despite being taken in Round 1, he never quite broke through in Washington’s offense. Over two seasons with the Commanders, Dotson totaled 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The hope when he came to Philly was that the Eagles could turn his career around and finally give the Eagles a solid WR3 option, but that didn’t end up happening. He finished the regular season hauling in just 19 receptions for 216 yards and no touchdowns. And when it came time to pick up his fifth-year option, the Eagles opted not to.
That could be what lit a fire inside of Dotson this offseason because he followed that up with a head-turning preseason and a solid start to the 2025 regular season as the Eagles’ WR3.
