Week 1 is out of the way for the Cleveland Browns, and it ended with a 17-16 loss to Cincinnati. Despite dominating defensively, the Browns couldn’t get out of their own way to secure a win to open the season. Joe Flacco and the passing game carried most of the load, as the run game never really got going. The good news for Cleveland is that reinforcements are likely on the way.

Quinshon Judkins is now under contract with the Browns and could make his NFL debut as soon as Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. Judkins met with the NFL on Sunday regarding an investigation into a possible violation of the Personal Conduct Policy. Nearly a month ago, a domestic violence charge against the second-round pick was dropped. Now, the former Ohio State Buckeye looks poised to finally get on the field.

Joe Flacco shared his thoughts on Quinshon Judkins joining the team

“I think it’s exciting for him. I mean, we got to see him a little bit in the spring, and he, you know, looked like a hell of a ball carrier,” Flacco said after the loss to the Bengals. “So, listen, I think we’re going to need all the pieces at some point, and different guys are going to need to step up at different points in the season. I think he’s a big part of what this football team could be, so it’s good to have him back. And I’m excited for him to kind of get in there and feel like he can be part of the team again.”

Flacco sounds genuinely excited about adding Judkins to the offense. The rookie is expected to pair with former fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson to form the future of the Browns’ running back room. Sampson handled lead back duties in Week 1 but managed just 29 yards on 12 carries. However, he was a bright spot in the passing game, catching eight passes for 64 yards. Sampson has the chance to be a versatile change-of-pace option alongside Judkins, who figures to be the primary between-the-tackles runner.

Judkins hasn’t practiced with the team since OTAs and missed all of training camp, a tough start to any rookie season. As long as he stayed in game shape while away from the team, his debut should be on track for Sunday against the Ravens. The Browns actually outgained Cincinnati in total yards, 341 to 327, but their 49 rushing yards simply weren’t enough. The offensive line will need to improve, but adding Judkins into the mix should provide a much-needed boost to Cleveland’s run game.
