Tennessee Vols fans are going to be loud on Saturday when the Georgia Bulldogs visit Neyland Stadium.

And after hearing comments from junior kicker Peyton Woodring this week, they may be even louder if/when Georgia lines up for a field goal.

Woodring met with reporters on Monday to preview Saturday’s game against Tennessee and he revealed that he prefers playing in hostile road environments.

“I feel like, funny enough, I actually like playing away more,” said Woodring. “Because I feel like the crowd is more involved — and they’re actually yelling. Whenever you’re at home, nobody’s yelling or anything. So I enjoy the pressure of it. It’s fun. It gets my adrenaline up.

“It’s probably the funnest part of the game for me — those big field goals. So it’s kind of something I work towards. And I really love playing in those environments in a way.”

I think that’s a great mindset to have as a competitor — that’s exactly how any player should feel about going into a hostile environment. You have to be confident to have success.

Vols fans, however, would be foolish not to use Woodring’s comments as motivation. Every Tennessee fan should take that quote personally and make it as loud as possible when Woodring is on the field to attempt a kick (that’s how any SEC fan base should react — it’s what playing in the SEC is all about).

Peyton Woodring says it’s especially big to beat Tennessee

Woodring, who confirmed on Monday that he wasn’t named after Vols legend Peyton Manning, is well-aware that Georgia has won eight games in a row against Tennessee.

And he says it’s important to keep that streak going.

“It’s important [to win] every game,” said Woodring. “It’s important to win. We try to go win out there. But especially those big ones. I feel like it’s really big for those — especially Tennessee. I mean, that’s always been one of our big rivals. We’ve gone out there and performed the past few years, but keeping that standard going throughout the years and building up a good record against them [is important].”

It should be a fun one on Saturday. Both of these teams are looking to make a statement early in the season. And whoever wins this game will have a much easier path to the College Football Playoff — while the loser will have very little room for error the rest of the season.

I have no doubt that Neyland will be quite loud on Saturday — especially when Woodring trots out to kick.
