LSU head coach Brian Kelly provided updates on the injury status of tight end Trey’Dez Green and starting center Braelin Moore during Monday’s press conference, stating that neither injury is expected to end their seasons.
Both players sustained injuries during LSU’s 23-7 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Diagnostic imaging conducted on Sunday revealed that Green and Moore are listed as questionable for the upcoming SEC matchup against Florida at home this Saturday.
Kelly went more in-depth on Monday, and we have a decent idea of what to expect from LSU’s injury report prior to kickoff vs. Florida.
Early LSU Injury Report Causes Concern Before Florida Matchup
Moore suffered an ankle injury on the game’s opening play after being rolled up on, forcing him to leave the field with assistance. He did not return, and Kelly confirmed an MRI was scheduled for Sunday to assess the damage.
“We did not get the sense he got a high ankle sprain or that he would need a tight rope procedure and he was going to be out for four weeks,” Kelly said. “He’s going to be day-to-day and see how he feels. He felt better today, so we’re going to list him as questionable, and that could change to probable as we go through the week. We’ll see how that progresses.”
Green, meanwhile, injured his knee on the first play of the fourth quarter. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound tight end was seen returning from the injury tent on crutches with a knee brace. No immediate update on his condition was provided post-game, but Kelly expressed cautious optimism on Monday about Green’s recovery as LSU prepares for SEC play.
“Trey’Dez has a sprain, but the good news is it’s a sprained MCL,” Kelly said. “Those are injuries you can come back from rather quickly.
“We’ll see where he is, and we’ll list him as questionable and work our way through the week and see where he is at the end of the week.”
Green has recorded two catches for 17 yards this season, including a touchdown in LSU’s season-opening win against Clemson on August 30.
With both players’ availability uncertain for the Florida game, LSU will rely on backups to fill critical roles. DJ Chester, who played 82 snaps after Moore’s early exit, is poised to take over at center. Despite some inconsistency, Chester will need to anchor the offensive line to protect quarterback Nussmeier against a formidable Florida defense.
At tight end, Bauer Sharp is expected to see increased targets in Green’s potential absence. Green’s size made him a key red-zone threat, notably in LSU’s bowl victory over Baylor and throughout the first two weeks of the 2025 season. Without him, LSU’s offense may face challenges in the red zone against Florida.
Injuries have tested numerous teams early this season, and LSU now faces a pivotal SEC showdown with Florida looming next week.
