An Indianapolis Colts’ star player seems to be in serious danger of missing their Week 2 matchup vs. the Broncos
Colts star in concussion protocol to begin practice week ahead of Week 2
The Indianapolis Colts started a season 1-0 for the first time since 2013 after picking up a blowout win over the Miami Dolphins. Now, they have their eyes set on starting 2-0 for the first time since 2009, and the only thing standing in their way is the Denver Broncos.
The Colts began their practice week ahead of the matchup on Wednesday. And unfortunately, their injury report has grown significantly from last week, when only two players were listed by the time the week ended. The most notable name on the list is starting CB Charvarius Ward, who missed practice due to being in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Colts Wednesday Week 2 injury report
- Tyler Goodson, RB – Limited participant
- Jaylon Jones, CB – Did not participate
- Laiatu Latu, Edge – Limited participant
- Alec Pierce, WR – Full participant
- Micahel Pittman Jr., WR – Full participant
- Charvarius Ward Sr., CB, – Did not participate
CB Charvarius Ward in concussion protocol

Ward finished the Colts’ Week 1 win without a reported injury. But to begin the week, he self-reported symptoms, and it was made clear that he had a concussion. He did not participate in practice on Wednesday, which makes his chances of clearing protocol even less likely, but not impossible. The NFL has a five-step process for a player to clear protocol, which is outlined below.
- 1. Symptom Limited Activity
- 2. Aerobic Exercise
- 3. Football-Specific Exercise
- 4. Club-Based Non-Contact Training Drills
- 5. Full Football Activity/Clearance
Without Ward participating in practice, he remains in either step one or two of the protocol. If he practices tomorrow, he will give himself a chance, but concussions aren’t something you want to push a player back faster than his body is telling him. Every concussion is different, and getting Ward healthy should be the top priority. If that means holding him out all week to do so, then so be it.
