On Wednesday, Steve Sarkisian spoke with the media ahead of Saturday’s contest against the UTEP Miners. Orangebloods’ Anwar Richardson has the latest on star running back Tre Wisner after sistting down with the Texas head coach.

“I’d probably say today he’s doubtful. I’m not ruling him out, but I would say he’s doubtful,” Sarkisian said. “Again, at this juncture of the season, I’m just not in a rush to push guys back out there if they’re not close to 100% or even closer. I just know how long this thing goes, you know, and I know what it’s going to look like in October, November, December, and hopefully January.

“Like, is the juice— is the juice worth the squeeze right now for Saturday? Now we’re rehabbing them. We’re trying to get them ready to go, and then we’ll make a decision as we get closer to the ball game about what that looks like.”

Tre Wisner is the lone 1,000-yard rusher returning in college football.

But, he has yet to return to his 2024 form. Against Ohio State, he ran the football 16 times for 80 yards but failed to find the end zone. Then last week, he missed the entire game.

If Texas is going to get back into the swing of things offensively, Wisner needs to be involved.

Another big injury update for the Texas Longhorns came through Wednesday as well.

Wide receiver DeAndre Moore sustained a concussion against San Jose State last weekend. This week, sources tell Orangebloods he’s trending in the right direction.

“Moore has been in the concussion protocol and is trending in the right direction,” Richardson said. “However, if Moore is unable to play against UTEP, Daylan McCutcheon and Ryan Niblett will receive reps at the position.”

Sarkisian went on to say “he [Moore] got dinged. I couldn’t see it from where it occurred. But he definitely got dinged, and we held him [out] after that.”

Two others on the injury list with updates are Alex January and Jack Endries. Per Richardson, January is expected to miss Saturday’s game due to an “undisclosed” injury. And Endries is execpted to be limited versus UTEP “due to a minor, undisclosed injury”.
