Texas Longhorns 2026 recruiting class gets a massive boost ahead of fall camp, and it’s a move we should have seen coming
After an unfortunate turn of events impacting his high school season, the Texas Longhorns get a huge boost for 2026.
Recruiting has taken an interesting turn in the last few years. We are seeing more and more players reclassify to enter college a year early, and the Texas Longhorns are the latest benefit of that.
Five-star cornerback John Meredith has officially reclassified to the class of 2026, and will be on the Longhorns roster in 2026.
John Meredith reclassifies to class of 2026
It’s an interesting decision by Meredith, but it makes all the sense in the world. His hand was relatively forced this offseason, as the UIL (Texas’ high school governing body) ruled that he was ineligible to play for North Crowley due to moving for athletic purposes.
“Meredith transferred to North Crowley from Euless Trinity in January and was later ruled ineligible for his senior season for transferring due to athletic purposes.
That decision was made on a 5-2 vote at an 11-6 district executive committee meeting, but Meredith and North Crowley were given the opportunity to appeal the committee’s decision to the UIL State Executive committee, which resulted in Thursday’s denial.”
Meredith goes from the No. 2 overall recruit in 2027 to the No. 12 overall in 2026, and he enters an interesting cornerback room. It’s filled with juniors and sophomores, which makes things interesting. He could end up getting playing time early on, but the Longhorns likely won’t feel forced to get him in right away.
It’s a nice coup for the Longhorns, and Meredith gets a chance to play this season.
