The Tennessee Vols lost a heartbreaker to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Knoxville.

Tennessee had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but Max Gilbert’s field goal went wide right, and the Bulldogs secured the win in overtime.

It was a tough loss for the Vols, but we still saw plenty of good things from Tennessee.

Vols QB Joey Aguilar has already done something at Tennessee that Nico Iamaleava never accomplished

Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar wasn’t perfect in his first SEC start, but he was pretty dang good.

The former Appalachian State quarterback completed 24-of-36 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions.

That’s a heck of an SEC debut for Aguilar, especially against Georgia.

Former Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava only passed for over 300 yards once in his Tennessee career (against Chattanooga). Iamaleava never passed for 300 yards in an SEC game (the closest Iamaleava came was 292 yards in a win against Kentucky).

Saturday’s loss was undoubtedly painful for Vols fans. But Tennessee has a quarterback. And the offense looked the best it has looked since 2022 when the Vols were putting up 40 points against everybody (except Georgia).

Tennessee has plenty to work on, but this team still has a chance to have a special season.
