The Colts might have found a star this offseason, Daniel Jones passes a big test and more from their Week 2 win vs. Broncos
Colts improve to 2-0 with win over the Broncos
Hopefully, you’ve settled down and caught your breath after an exciting finish in the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 2 matchup vs. the Denver Broncos. The Colts pulled out a 29-28 win after a last-second field goal. It may not have been a blowout win like Week 1, but the Colts learned more about themselves.
From another stellar showing by Daniel Jones, the team finding a star in the making, and more. Let’s dive into what this win means for the Colts.
Colts’ new kicker propels them to 2-0
The Colts wanted more stability out of their kicker, and it sure seems like they found it. Spencer Shrader began the year strong, going four-of-four on field goal attempts, and yet still found a way to one-up the performance.
He finished Week 2 five-of-five on field goal attempts, including his first game-winner in the NFL. Hopefully, the Colts don’t have to rely on him so much for the entire season. But the first two weeks have shown they can when needed, and that’s a big deal.
Daniel Jones passed a big test
Jones was great in Week 1, but the Dolphins’ terrible showing on defense made people wonder how much credit he actually deserved. His doubters can’t use that this week, though, as he went head-to-head with a Broncos defense believed by many to be the best defense in the NFL. A tough task for any QB to face, and it seems safe to say Jones and the Colts offense passed with flying colors.
Jones finished the day completing 23 of his 34 pass attempts, throwing for 316 yards and one touchdown. He also added another rushing touchdown on a QB sneak. He showed, yet again, that he can operate Shane Steichen’s offense at a high level.
It is still early, but it is starting to feel like time for people who doubted the Colts’ choice to start Jones over Anthony Richardson (myself included) to send an apology to Steichen.
Signing Cam Bynum is already a win for the Colts
Some were shocked to see the Colts hand Cam Bynum a big contract this offseason. After two weeks, though, I think people are starting to realize why they did it. Bynum is a walking big play at the safety position, and after two games, he now has two interceptions.
Bynum has shown himself to be a weapon for defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. He has elevated the safety position for the Colts and is someone the fan base has already rallied behind. I’m sure his theatrical celebrations play a role there. He plays an exciting brand of football, or as he would call it, “A Moooooovie!”
