The Cleveland Browns have ramped things up with rookie running back Quinshon Judkins in a big way since he signed his contract and returned to practice. With just two full NFL practices under his belt, Judkins got the start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 and gave fans plenty of reason to be excited about his future as the team’s lead back. The Browns limited Judkins to just 20 offensive snaps—27 percent of the team’s total—but he still made an impact during that time.
Judkins carried the ball 10 times for 61 yards and added three receptions for 10 yards. When the Browns had their rookie second-round pick on the field, they went to him on 65 percent of their plays in their first road game of the season. This week will be key for Judkins, as he’ll have his first full week of practice and game-planning ahead of the upcoming matchup. Cleveland returns home in Week 3 to host a strong Green Bay Packers team.
Quinshon Judkins could see his role grow in Week 3
“I thought he did a nice job with what we asked him to do yesterday,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday. “Obviously, we’ll get him in here, get a lift, get treatment, see how his body’s feeling. But I think he’s certainly capable of doing more, and we’ll treat it just like we did last week—we’ll see how he comes through the week and make those types of decisions as the week goes on.”
It sounds like the Browns are preparing Judkins for a bigger role this week, which makes sense. Coming out of Ohio State, Judkins was viewed as a player capable of handling three-down duties at the NFL level, and that’s what Cleveland drafted him to be. Against Baltimore, the Browns leaned on Jerome Ford in most third-down situations over Judkins and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson. Many of those snaps could eventually shift to Judkins, but it was understandable to limit his responsibilities in his debut with so little practice. Ford logged 35 snaps on offense against Baltimore, while Sampson played 17.
Still, Judkins was easily the Browns’ most impactful back, flashing his big-play ability on a 31-yard run through contact in the fourth quarter. Even if it came during garbage time, it was an impressive effort from the strong rookie running back. The Browns view Judkins as their future primary back and the ideal successor to the Nick Chubb era. Look for him to take another step forward against a tough Packers front led by Micah Parsons on Sunday.

Browns’ key starter had to exit for what could be viewed as a red flag of a reason against the Ravens
The Cleveland Browns’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 was a lopsided one, ending 41-17. Cleveland turned the ball over twice and had a punt blocked — mistakes that fueled Baltimore’s parade of points. Despite holding Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to under 250 yards of total offense, the Browns still lost by […]
