Two Giants players that desperately needed early season momentum earn praise from Pro Football Focus
Two key New York Giants offensive players earned recognition from Pro Football Focus for their explosive Week 2 performances agains the Dallas Cowboys
While the New York Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, there are some silver linings from this past Sunday.
The promising outcome for the Giants was the explosive passing attack that emerged thanks to the deep shot connections between Malik Nabers and Russell Wilson. Their dominant performance earned them a spot on Pro Football Focus’s Week 2 Team of the Week.
Malik Nabers and Russell Wilson land on PFF’s Team of the Week
No one in the NFL could have predicted the fireworks that Nabers and Wilson produced this week. Wilson launched multiple moon balls to Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson for 450 yards and three touchdowns. Nabers almost broke his career high single-game receiving total with 167 yards. He also finished with nice receptions and two touchdowns.
Per Pro Football Focus, Wilson received an 88.2 offensive grade and an 85.6 passing grade. He also finished with six big-time throws for a big-time throw rate of 14.3%. The most impressive aspect of his day was that he finished with an adjusted completion percentage of 84.6%, which indicates his throws on target.
Additionally, Nabers graded with an 87.3 offensive grade and an 85.3 receiving grade. Nabers also finished with a perfect 100% contested catch rate with multiple impressive highlights.
We knew coming into the 2025 season that Nabers was a bona fide stud who was ready to take a massive leap after his impressive rookie year. However, many called into question whether the Giants’ passing attack would have much production with the weathered Wilson leading the offense.
To see this passing game take over the way that it did is incredibly promising. The fact that it was only in Week 2 is even more exciting. It’s hard to project what to expect from the Giants early in the season, especially with their challenging schedule. But there’s valid evidence to show they’re scrappier than once believed.
A game like this doesn’t automatically mean that all problems are solved, and they go on to repeat this dominance multiple times. It does, at least, cultivate early confidence in the Giants’ offense, leading them to believe they can shine in the future. It also proves this offense has tremendous talent that wasn’t given the chance to flourish in the past.
With rookie Jaxson Dart expected to take over at some point, this also should provide optimism to Giants fans that he’ll be stepping into a strong situation. If Nabers and Robinson can replicate just 70% of that production against other weak secondaries, we could be in for an explosive debut for Dart.
