Browns make more than one growing concern official heading into Week 3 game against Packers
The Browns will have to see how the next couple of days go.
The start to the season is a rough one for the Cleveland Browns coming off a season where they were 3-14. Cleveland played two AFC North opponents, the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens, and now will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. With a 0-2 record on the year, Cleveland is looking at 0-3 outside of an upset against a very good Green Bay team. Cleveland is heading into Week 3 with several injury issues that have to be sorted out.
Browns have three players questionable to play against Green Bay
Cleveland will be without second-year DT Mike Hall Jr. for a third straight week and it looks like his debut may be next week at the Detroit Lions. Hall was limited in practice early week then missed some time late as he works his way back from his knee surgery in the offseason. Cleveland has three players questionable to play against the Packers and that is WR DeAndre Carter, LG Joel Bitonio, and RT Jack Conklin. On the other side, the Packers did not have breakout TE Tucker Kraft practicing today and that isn’t a good sign for his availability on Sunday.
Bitonio not going would be a big loss for the Browns, as he’s been a staple on the interior for a decade in Cleveland. The veteran left guard didn’t practice at all this week, so him going against a physical top-level Packers defense would be a bit of a surprise. Though, veterans like Bitonio can go out and play on Sunday with no practice, this will come down to how he’s feeling on Sunday. Carter returned to practice from a concussion that he suffered early on against Baltimore.
Conklin missed Week 2 against the Ravens due to an eye injury he suffered against the Bengals in the opening week game. After returning to practice this week, the Browns may be able to get their veteran right back on Sunday. Going up against Micah Parsons and a talented Packers defensive front is going to be a challenge and the Browns need to be at their best they can be. Starting a backup tackle isn’t ideal against Parsons and Rashan Gary, so it’ll be interesting to see if Conklin can go.
Cleveland hasn’t won a game through two weeks, while the Packers have wins over two good teams to start the season. The kickoff at 1 p.m. will be a game that is heavily favored to go to the road team, it’ll be even more that way if the Browns are missing veterans up front against Green Bay.
