The Browns will surely take note of this comment.

The Cleveland Browns have a clear identity through three games and that is to lean on what is an elite defense thus far. Cleveland held the Green Bay Packers to just 10 points in a Week 3 win and the Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow were held to 17 points and 142 total yards in the opener. Cleveland is leading the NFL by only giving up 231 yards per game so far and they may have just received some extra motivation heading into a matchup with a very good Detroit Lions team.

Lions OC John Morton comments on the run game could be taken as bulletin board material by the Browns

“Our front right now, we’re moving guys,” Morton said to the local media on Thursday. “I don’t think they have seen a run game like ours yet. And, you know, we have patience. We stick with it. I think that’s the biggest thing. Let’s keep doing what we’ve been doing. We gotta do that so we can stay manageable.”

There are one of two ways to take this and the competitor will take it the second way every time. Morton could be just showing heavy confidence in what is a very good running back room in Detroit with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. That could be the case for the Lions’ first-year coordinator. The way that Cleveland could take it as Morton is doubting what the Browns have done to this point. Cleveland went out and held Josh Jacobs to 30 rushing yards on 13 attempts. The Browns kept Derrick Henry in check as well when they faced the Baltimore Ravens.

Myles Garrett has been a star as both a pass rusher and run stopper, but he’s had a ton of help from this Browns defense. Maliek Collins, Mason Graham, Isaiah McGuire, Alex Wright, Shelby Harris, and Adin Huntington all have had impactful moments as run-stoppers for Cleveland this year on just the defensive line. Rookie LB Carson Schwesinger and veteran LB Devin Bush are playing at a very high level behind the defensive line that isn’t giving up much on Jo front.

The Lions may gash the Browns on Sunday on the ground. That very well could happen, the Browns aren’t going to go unscathed on the ground all season. The possibility is there that the Browns shut down their running game and they force Jared Goff to beat them as well. Both are possible.
