Injuries threatened both the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels prior to meeting this week, but this is an SEC showdown with two undefeated teams. The Rebels are on a backup quarterback due to the aforementioned injuries, and the betting odds and expert analysis have swayed further toward LSU with news of Austin Simmons being out. Our team is projecting mixed results, though.

With the hours counting down for Ole Miss vs. LSU to kick off, we’re getting a clearer picture of expectations. LSU is healthy and boasts arguably the best defense in the country. Their secondary has been otherworldly, and even Lane Kiffin has commented on how talented the group is.

So, what’s the consensus? Let’s take a look at what our team thinks will happen.

LSU projected to shut down explosive Ole Miss offense

Only one of our panelists thinks Ole Miss can pull this one out. The average score wound up having LSU win, 30-27. Here’s the conclusion of our work:

“The A to Z Sports staff could see this going either way, but overall believes LSU puts the whole puzzle together and wins a close one. On average, our team members picked this game to finish 30-27 in favor of Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers. Holding Ole Miss to their lowest point total of the season won’t be easy, but the Tigers’ defense has proven they’re one of the best in the country already.”

The lone defector was Zach Berry, who primarily covers Texas for us. Here was his ending paragraph of analysis.

“With Nussmeier still not being 100 percent due to knee tendinitis and Caden Durham questionable, I think Ole Miss gets it done at home. Kiffin is 18-3 in SEC play in Oxford since 2021 and 2-0 versus LSU. [Trinidad] Chambliss gives LSU’s defense fits with his dual-threat ability and the Ole Miss defense gets a couple turnovers to seal another conference win and first place in the SEC.” – Zach Berry, A to Z Sports Texas.

Personally, I find LSU too offensively talented, healthy at the right time, and defensively overwhelming. If Garrett Nussmeier can play somewhat efficiently and limit turnovers, then LSU’s biggest contender isn’t in the SEC. It’d be Ohio State, or maybe Miami.

Ole Miss will fight and pull out all of their tricks to stay close, but LSU should win this as they face off against an inexperienced passer in Chambliss.
