The LSU Tigers thought they’d be close to full strength entering its top-15 showdown with the Ole Miss Rebels this week, but a late curveball won’t help their efforts. Our expert panel of pickers collectively believes LSU will win this undefeated battle 30-27, but being without a star offensive playmaker will make that more difficult.
Thankfully for LSU, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is full-go. But star running back Caden Durham has seen his status downgraded. News broke late on Friday that Durham will travel with the team, but Brian Kelly will have to alter his game plan.
Durham was moved from questionable earlier this week to doubtful to play. An ankle injury that was suffered last week has limited him.
Caden Durham injury update doesn’t bode well for LSU
Unfortunately for LSU, there’s not an obvious bellcow candidate to pick up Durham’s slack. The speedy playmaker has totaled 52 carries for 213 yards and two scores. No other Tiger has more than 15 carries or 87 yards rushing this season.
Monday’s press conference had much more optimism about Durham’s status, so it’s a notable change to see him ailing to this degree.
“He was better than we first thought. (He) doesn’t show signs of a high ankle (sprain), so he’s anxious to give it a shot and play. But we’ll monitor him throughout the week,” Kelly said.
Now, we’ll see whether it’s Harlem Berry or Zavion Thomas who makes the most of their newfound opportunity against Ole Miss.
