The Florida State Seminoles plan to quickly bounce back after their loss to Virginia. They’re still ranked in the AP Poll, so fans don’t have to worry about that, but they do play the Miami Hurricanes next, and they may be the best team in college football.

We learned a lot about this team last week, when the defense finally played a great offense. Now, we need to learn about how this team responds when they face adversity. Well, it’s very apparent they don’t play around, because apparently, this team is already back at it.

“Even before the slate of college games kicked off that day, the FSU players were scheduled to be back in the team facility for treatment, then meetings and practice. With Miami enjoying a bye week, the Seminoles’ coaches wanted to take advantage of the extra time that comes with playing on a weeknight. Another potential benefit of the quick turnaround is perhaps giving Florida State’s players less time to dwell on the disappointment of losing to Virginia,” Warchant.com’s Matt LaSerre wrote.

That is the type of thing that championship-caliber teams do.

Seminoles have to improve this week

There are quite a few things that the Seminoles need to improve this week if they want to upset their in-state rival, the Miami Hurricanes. Firstly, if they couldn’t get pressure on Virginia QB Chandler Morris, with that offensive line and the injuries they had, they won’t on Miami either unless they fix some things. The pass rush has to be better because it was putrid.

The crazy thing is that wasn’t even the worst part of the defense, as the run game was somehow worse. They let Virginia, and a former FCS running back, run all over them. The Cavaliers averaged 4.4 yards per run in the game, but when it mattered most, late in the game, Virginia was doing whatever they wanted to when running the ball, and even allowing a QB whose throwing hand was injured to run the ball well.

Most of the issues at hand that need to be fixed are on that side of the ball. However, when it comes to the offense, they aren’t innocent. They balled out when they needed to most, and we could be talking about an overtime win if Robinson catches the ball that Castellanos threaded to him. However, the self-inflicted wounds will not allow you to beat Miami.

The dumb penalties cannot happen. The fumbles and drops cannot happen, and even for Castellanos, who played extremely well, he has to make better decisions. But, all in all, the offense was really, really good.

Next week is going to be huge, so let’s see what we learned about this Seminoles team, and how well they respond, because it’s clear they have to be better.
