Look, the Arch Manning hype was out of control before he even took a snap this season. And it has more than likely affected how his 2025 got started. But, after three non-conference wins, it would appear he is improving.

This weekend, the No. 9 Texas Longhorns (3-1) will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for its SEC opener against the Florida Gators (1-3, 0-1). But, before kickoff, the hype train has been fired back up. This time, it’s actor Glen Powell.

“His first start at The Shoe at Ohio State, a hell of a program, that’s a tough way to come into that position,” Powell said on NFL Live. “I get to spend a lot of time in Austin. I’m very familiar with the program. Arch has the capability to bring Texas to a natty.

“Mark my words, by the way. If Texas wins a natty this year, I think we’re going to go on a dynasty run. There’s no reason people should not be coming to Texas,” Powell said. “[Austin] is the greatest city in the world, one of the most prestigious teams, nobody looks bad in burnt orange.”

Glen Powell went on to defend Arch Manning’s rough start and express his affinity for the Texas program.

“I’m a big believer in this program and the future of it,” Powell said. “I think Arch has what it takes. He’s not overthinking anymore. It really feels like he’s going to be meeting his receivers in time without having to think too much,” Powell continued.

“Just the nature of how anyone comes to that first snap is really unfair. It’s an Instagram/TikTok culture. The noise is defining. No one has ever had to navigate that. I commend him for figuring it out week by week. But with any great quarterback, you’ve got to quiet the noise and play the game.”

Saturday will be huge for Manning and Texas’ season trajectory. The Gators, albeit reeling, are still dangerous at home. Mainly because of the ability run the ball. Jaiden Baugh is averaging 5.9 yards per carry and the Longhorns are the top defense in the SEC defending the run. Something’s got to give.

Texas All-American safety Michael Taaffe is ready for the challenge.

“We have to be elite tacklers in the open field,” Taaffe added. “If every time they complete a pass, we are tackling the catch, then we’ll be the best secondary in the country, because there’s no leaky yards.

“Their two running backs are elite running backs, true SEC power running backs with elite jump cuts, great vision, great contact balance,” Taaffe said. “So tackling is a big point of emphasis this week on those running backs.”

Much like Texas, if Florida is going to have any chance on Saturday or down the road, the Gators’ offense needs the running game to help out DJ Lagway.
