When you trade two first-round picks and Kenny Clark for a player, you expect immediate impact and high-level production. That’s exactly what the Green Bay Packers have gotten early on from edge defender Micah Parsons.

PFF’s Gordon McGuinness made a list with the All-Pro Team for the first quarter of the season after the first four weeks. Not only is Parsons a part of it, but he was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the quarter. This is what McGuinness pointed out:

“You could make a case for at least four edge defenders alone to be in the running for this award,” McGuinness wrote. “However, it is Parsons who leads all players at the position with a 93.4 PFF pass-rush grade. His 25 total pressures are tied with Will Anderson Jr. for the most in the NFL, while his 28.0% pass-rush win rate is tied for fourth.”

It’s undeniable. What the Packers have been underwhelming over the past two weeks, and the defense allowed 40 points to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday, Micah Parsons has had an insane impact in the entire unit—and it’s just the beginning of his trajectory in Green Bay.

Not the only Packer

While Parsons is certainly the most notable player on the list, there’s another sneaky impactful piece in there. It’s Irish punter Daniel Whelan, who’s taken his game to another level this season.

Whelan is the highest-graded punter (83.2) in the NFL according to PFF, one of only four punters in the entire league with a grade above 80.

So far this season, Whelan has punted 14 times. He has a 51.8 average of yards per punt (3rd), 42.9 net yards per punt (12th), 4.76 hang time average (3rd), and had a 65-yard punt.

Right before the regular season, the Packers rewarded Whelan with a two-year, $6.2 million extension. Now, he’s under contract in Green Bay through 2027.
