Florida State has the attention of a four-star recruit that the loss to Miami shows they desperately need
FSU is in pursuit of a recruit who could be an impact player down the line.
The Florida State Seminoles found the sledding tough against the Miami Hurricanes’ defensive front in their 28-22 loss last Saturday night. The Hurricanes’ pass rush was relentless, generating 42 total pressures in 60 pass blocking snaps. Miami’s highly-touted edge duo of Rueben Bain, Jr. and Akheem Mesidor generated 11 and 8 pressures, respectively.
As such, it’s apparent that Florida State simply has to improve their offensive line if they’re going to compete with the A-list programs in the country moving forward. One such option would could fit the bill happens to still have his eye closely on the Seminoles despite the loss.
Per Rivals recruiting analyst Marcus Benjamin, four-star Venice, FL OT Johnnie Jones has his eye on FSU among three other teams.
4-star OT Johnnie Jones has FSU as one of the four schools he’s focusing on, per Rivals
Jones is a consensus four-star recruit by Rivals’ industry rankings. He’s the #132 overall player, #10 offensive tackle, and #19 player in the state of Florida for the 2026 cycle. He holds offers from a number of notable programs, including Miami, Georgia, Penn State, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Auburn, Missouri, and many more Power Four schools. However, the three schools besides FSU that he’s currently considering are Penn State, Mississippi State, and Missouri.
At 6’6″, 308 pounds, Jones has the length and frame to develop into a potential impact starter on the end of the line. He was in attendance at Florida State’s clash with the Hurricanes last Saturday as a visitor, and he says that FSU’s loss to the Hurricanes isn’t something that’s going to dissuade him, as he sees the Seminoles in a rebuilding mode.
“It’s about helping this program get back on the map,” Jones told Rivals about why he’s interested in Florida State.
FSU doesn’t have a four-star offensive lineman commit in their 2026 class per On3/Rivals, so Jones would be a major boost to the Noles’ class. We’ll find out as the season goes along if Mike Norvell and offensive line coach Herb Hand can convince him to stay in state once early signing day arrives.
