The University of North Carolina has released a statement following reports that head coach Bill Belichick’s time as head coach could be coming to an end soon.

On Wednesday, The Guardian’s Ollie Connolly reported that Belichick has begun discussing buyout options with UNC, even going as far as to signal “willingness to trigger his own $1 million buyout if he can find a soft landing with another team or in media.” And with that, members of his coaching staff have already started to look for jobs with other teams that will be in the College Football Playoffs.

Ollie Connolly’s reports from sources

  • “From one coach: ‘the rats are leaving the ship.’ Some staffers believe a change will come within two weeks”
  • “Reports of serious recruiting violations remain under investigation at UNC. Recruiting and practice violations have already been proven by the school, according to multiple sources.”
  • “Belichick’s communication with his staff in the past two weeks has been described as “weird” and “distant” by multiple members of UNC’s coaching staff. Multiple coaches were unable to get hold of him during UNC’s bye week”
  • From one UNC defensive assistant: “What we’ve done to these kids is f***ed up.”

However, Belichick is setting the record straight.

“I’m fully committed to UNC Football and the program we’re building here,” Belichick said in the statement.

The University also put their full weight behind their head coach.

“Coach Belichick has the full support of the Department of Athletics and University,” UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said.

UNC canceled Hulu documentary

Following their 2-3 start, Belichick and the University of North Carolina have made the decision to cancel the documentary series with Hulu that was set to follow the head coach through his first year at the college level, Inside Carolina reports.

This was going to be a second opportunity for fans to get an inside look after it was initially reported that HBO’s “Hard Knocks” would follow Belichick over the summer, but that was also scrapped.
