Penn State’s loss could be Tennessee’s gain with a top 100 recruit in the 2027 class
The Vols are on the radar of an intriguing member of the 2027 class.
It’s been a tough week for the Penn State Nittany Lions, both on and off the field. And regarding the latter, the Tennessee Volunteers could be in position to eventually be the benefactor of that.
2027 four-star WR Khalil Taylor decommitted from Penn State on Friday. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports/Rivals, Tennessee is one of eight schools that Taylor says he would like to visit.
4-star 2027 WR Khalil Taylor interested in Tennessee after decommitting from Penn State
Taylor is the #60 overall player, the #11 wide receiver, and the #4 player in the state of Pennsylvania for the 2027 cycle, according to Rivals’ industry rankings. He holds offers from Florida State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Nebraska, Michigan State, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Rutgers, among others. He had been committed to Penn State since March.
According to Fawcett, Taylor said that he has scheduled visits to Ohio State, Syracuse, and Oregon. However, he has interest in setting visits to five other schools – Tennessee, Florida State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Indiana. He also clarified what he’s looking for in a school.
“To see how many times a game they throw the ball, the play style and who the quarterback is going to be,” Taylor told On3/Rivals. “I have to make sure I have a quarterback and make sure he’s good at what he’s doing. And making sure again, they’re showing love, interest, and they really want me to be a part of the program.”
Fortunately for Tennessee, their offense is as good any in the country right now as far as a selling point. While Joey Aguilar will be out of eligibility next year, the Vols have Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre as underclassmen and highly touted 2026 QB Faizon Brandon will be joining the program next year. And wide receiver Chris Brazzell II has been having a Biletnikoff Award-type of season, while Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley have contributed significantly in their second seasons with the program.
We’ll see if Josh Heupel can get the talented receiver to Knoxville for a visit during the season, as Tennessee has done a nice job impressing recruits with a second-to-none gameday atmosphere.
