The top 2027 recruit in the nation has a unique connection to the Vols, and he’s set to visit Tennessee for a big game
The Tennessee Vols are set to receive a visit from the top 2027 recruit in the nation. Tennessee is facing some stiff competition in this recruiting battle.
The top 2027 football recruit in the nation has a unique connection to the Tennessee Vols, and he’ll be on Rocky Top later this fall for an important visit.
According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, 2027 five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs will visit Tennessee for the Vols’ matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners on November 1.
Jacobs, 6-foot-5/225 lbs from Roswell, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
The coveted recruit visited Texas A&M this past weekend for the Aggies’ win over the Florida Gators.
DJ Jacobs has a unique connection to the Tennessee Vols
Tennessee is battling some of the top programs in college football for Jacobs.
Florida State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Miami, Oregon, and Texas A&M are all in the mix for the five-star edge rusher.
Jacobs’ dad, David, played at Georgia — which is certainly an advantage for the Bulldogs.
And it also may be an advantage for the Volunteers. That’s because David played at Georgia for defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who is currently in his fifth season as the defensive line coach at Tennessee.
Loy noted that Jacobs’ family is “close” with Garner.
For now, Tennessee, according to Loy, is in Jacobs’ second tier of schools (along with Notre Dame).
A great visit on November 1 for the Oklahoma game, however, could vault Tennessee into that top group.
The Volunteers currently have just one player committed to their 2027 recruiting class — three-star linebacker and Vol legacy JP Peace (the grandson of former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer).
