The Kansas City Chiefs got a much-needed win over a very good Detroit Lions team on Sunday night.

For the third straight week, Kansas City’s offense executed at a very high level. It has cashed in for 12 touchdowns during that span, with eight of them coming through the air. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has done a great job of spreading the ball around, but one receiver in particular has been his most trusted and consistent.

WR Hollywood Brown has best game as a Chief vs. Lions

Brown caught four passes for 45 yards against Detroit on Sunday night, with two of them going for touchdowns. His first came during the Chiefs’ crucial opening drive of the second half, which gave the team a 10-point lead and kept them one step ahead of the Lions the rest of the game. While speaking to the media after the game, Mahomes described how he found Brown for that score.

“We had called a play where we actually thought one of their (the Lions) defensive ends were going to drop from the boundary, and we might get Pop (Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco) open,” Mahomes said. “But, with him (the Lions defender) dropping underneath Pop, Hollywood was able to get across the field and score. He got across the field and I was able to throw him the ball, and he won with speed. That’s part of the progression. You have to be able to recognize the coverages that they’re in, and Hollywood did a great job getting open.”

Hollywood Brown has been Mahomes’ most reliable weapon so far this season

Brown leads the Chiefs in receptions with 30, and is tied for first in receiving TDs with three. He hasn’t had a lot of splash plays like fellow wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and Xavier Worthy, but has continually gotten open and caught the ball. Mahomes went on to describe how Brown has grown into his role this season.

“He’s always had the talent,” Mahomes said. “He’s dealt with a lot of injuries, but when he’s there, he plays hard, he understands the game, and he does a great job. The great thing about this offense is it can come from everywhere. Hollywood, Tyquan’s had big games, Xavier’s had big games, Travis (Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce), other guys. Now we’re getting Rashee (Chiefs WR Rashee Rice) back. So it’s all about building depth. I think Veach (Chiefs general manager Brett Veach) has done a great job with that. Those guys love each other in that receiving room. They love each other, and they want each other to do good. When you have that mindset as a whole room, you can have a lot of success.”
