Despite the rough loss to Pitt at home on Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles are still doing well in the recruiting space. However, if Sunday showed us anything, it’s that CFB is a business, and you’re never safe, so Mike Norvell and the Seminoles may want to start winning some games soon.

Penn State fired its head coach, James Franklin, after starting the season 3-3 with losses to UCLA and Northwestern. Penn State is a school that has strived to be a National Championship contender every single year, but under Franklin, they could never win the big game. Now, their elite 2026 and 2027 recruiting classes are seeing players decommit, which means other schools can take advantage of that.

Penn State had the 16th-ranked 2026 class and the No. 1 2027 class. Now, they don’t have anyone in their 2027 class, and their biggest get, five-star RB Kemon Spell, is gone, and the Seminoles can take advantage of that.

Seminoles can go after 2027 RB Kemon Spell

Spell is the No. 8 player in the entire class, the No. 1 player at his position, and the No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania. Spell already has his new top-eight schools that stand out to him, and the Seminoles are on the list, as are their rivals, the Miami Hurricanes.

The USC Trojans, Hurricanes, and Seminoles are all at a disadvantage in the Spell sweepstakes, as they’re all not even in the same region as where he is from, which makes it even harder to land a guy like him.

Florida State’s 2027 Recruiting Class

  • 2027 class is ranked 11th-best by On3’s rankings.
  • Class has three defensive backs out of four total commits.
  • Only one offensive commit in the class so far in tight end Connor Winn.
  • Every commit in the class is from Florida, two from Fort Lauderdale.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, and Tennessee Volunteers are also teams that are pushing hard for Spell, so the Seminoles are going up against the best of the best in recruiting.

In his initial recruitment, FSU had the fourth-best prediction percentage to land him before he committed to Penn State, behind Pitt and West Virginia, so there is a chance. FSU does not have an RB in its 2027 class and currently ranks 11th in the 2027 class. Getting Spell could easily put them in the top three early on. Spell is the type of RB recruit who could completely change your offense.
