Broncos’ rising star made sure to get the last laugh with a hilarious message to opposing QB after win over the Jets
It’s all love between the two former teammates.
The Denver Broncos squeaked out a victory over the New York Jets in London; while it wasn’t pretty, a win is still a win. The name of the game was defense for the Broncos, who made life difficult for quarterback Justin Fields and the offense all day, bringing him down nine times.
Joining in on the sack fun was none other than edge rusher Jonathon Cooper. Cooper finished his day with two sacks on Fields, but it’s what he posted on social media after the game that’s turning heads.
“Lead me to a national championship I love him fr forver my brother,” Cooper wrote.
Cooper and Fields were teammates for two seasons at Ohio State, with the pair reaching the College Football National Championship in their final season together. A lot of love between the pair, with Cooper ultimately getting the last laugh in the victory over the Jets.
Defense came to play against the Jets
On top of having nine sacks for the day, which continues to build on Denver’s league-leading sack totals, the team had 15 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, and four passes defended in the matchup. They brought Fields down early and often throughout the contest.
Adding to the defensive dominance, the team allowed negative 10 net passing yards, which was a franchise record and the first time they’ve held a team to negative passing yards since the early 1970s.
Denver’s defensive performance against the Jets has been immortalized, allowing the fewest passing yards this century. While the offense struggled at times, the defense deserves its credit for helping secure the victory.
Late in the fourth quarter, Fields and the offense had an opportunity to drive down the field to win the game on a last-second field goal, but the defense once again stopped the Jets’ offense in their tracks.
It wasn’t just another win for Cooper. Taking down his former Ohio State teammate and friend added a personal touch to a record-setting defensive performance. Years later, on a different stage and in different uniforms, Cooper helped lead a defense that shut Fields down completely. For one afternoon in London, the former Buckeye got the last laugh.
