The Buffalo Bills could use some help across multiple areas of their offense and defense. Put simply, the team is currently ravaged by injuries. As the team heads into the bye week, a handful of key players are either considered day-to-day or week-to-week, depending on the severity of their injuries.

Linebackers Matt Milano (pec) and Terrel Bernard (ankle), wide receiver Curtis Samuel (neck/rib), and tight end Dalton Kincaid (oblique) are considered day-to-day. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (calf), and wide receiver Josh Palmer (ankle) are considered week-to-week.

However, it’s the update from head coach Sean McDermott on rookie first-round pick and cornerback Maxwell Hairston that has the fan base more than a little excited. While he didn’t open the 21-day practice window just yet, McDermott said the team “might” open that up during the bye.

Mixed messaging from McDermott

It’s not the first and won’t be the last update from McDermott on Hairston. Fans have been thrown through a whirlwind regarding the rookie cornerback’s availability.

Hairston was hurt before the season even began with a non-contact knee injury that has sidelined him for the entirety of the season thus far. With some glaring weaknesses in Buffalo’s secondary, Bills Mafia has been clamoring for any updates on Hairston, hoping for a change in the defensive backfield.

McDermott has done nothing to ease the minds of fans. Before this update, McDermott had alluded to “when and if” Hairston returns, with fans fearing the worst that Hairston could be out for the entire season.

The latest update from McDermott was a welcome one, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

With several players on the mend and a much-needed bye week to reset, the Bills will hope the time off brings better health, and maybe the long-awaited return of their first-round rookie.
