Former Tennessee Vols running back Alvin Kamara has spent his entire career with the New Orleans Saints, but that may not still be the case by the end of the season.

Kamara, who is in his ninth season with the Saints, was named by CBS Sports this week as the top trade candidate at the running back position.

“The Saints aren’t competing for the NFC South this season and there’s little sense in retaining a 30-year-old running back with one year remaining on his contract on the roster,” noted CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr. “Kamara still has some juice as a dual-threat back, rushing for 314 yards (3.8 yards per carry) and having 122 receiving yards (5.5 yards per catch).”

Alvin Kamara still has plenty left in the tank

Kamara is now on the wrong side of 30, but he still has plenty left in the tank.

The former Vol set a career high with 950 rushing yards last season. And he went over 1,000 total yards for the eighth time in his career.

So far this season, Kamara has totaled 436 yards and one touchdown. He’s not quite as dynamic as he used to be, but he’s still a playmaker. And a contender that needs an offensive boost could certainly use Kamara on their roster (the Los Angeles Chargers maybe?).

The NFL trade deadline is on November 4.

Update:

Kamara told reporters on Thursday that he hopes he doesn’t get trade.

“I don’t want to go anywhere….I think everybody knows that,” said Kamara.
