NFL comes down hard on Steelers LB Patrick Queen for the second time in less than a month following hit to the head of Browns QB
More money out of Patrick Queen’s pocket.
Saturday in the NFL means a day of fines. And for Pittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen, that’s nothing new to him. Back in Week 2, the NFL deemed that the officiating crew had missed a roughing the passer on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, and Queen was fined $17,389.
Well, he’s now been fined for doing the same thing to Cleveland Browns QB Dillon Gabriel.
Patrick Queen fined $23,186 for roughing the passer on Dillon Gabriel
“The NFL uses the fine schedule to outline the league’s and the union’s expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league. The rules are intended to protect the players from unnecessary risk, promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans.”
“Players subject to accountability measures receive a letter informing them of what they did, a video of the play in question, why they are being fined and how much it will cost them. They also receive information on how to appeal the fine. If they choose not to appeal, the fine is withheld from their next game check.” – NFL Gameday accountability.
Seeing as this was the second time that Queen was fined, the league bumped up the cost, and he now has been fined a total of $40,575 for the two hits. Here was the first one on Sam Darnold in case you missed it.
For Queen, I’d wager to say this is the last thing on his mind. The Steelers’ loss to the Bengals on Thursday night is still fresh for many, and Queen was among the vocal players in the front seven who were distraught by the way the defense performed.
“It’s not the secondary, that’s a cop out. I think front line, we got to control line of scrimmage a lot better,” Cam Heyward told Brooke Pryor via X-Twitter. “I’m pissed off. We didn’t take care of our job. They were last in rushing, and the way we gave it up today that takes the cake. We don’t stop the *bleeping* run, that’s as simple as that.”
We’ll see where the Steelers defense goes from here. But it won’t get any easier. The team is back on primetime next week, as Aaron Rodgers takes on the Green Bay Packers for the first time since he left.
Patrick Queen and the Steelers will need to be locked in.
