Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates on Omarr Norman-Lott, Trey Smith after dominant Week 7 win over Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided an update on injured players following the Week 7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs dominated their AFC West division rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, in Week 7, but it came at a bit of a cost.
Kansas City suffered multiple injuries during a 31-0 win on Sunday, including a back injury to RG Trey Smith and a knee injury to rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott, who were ruled out before the end of the game. Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke to reporters following the win, first providing an update on Norman-Lott’s status.
“Alright, as far as the injuries go, really, (Omarr) Norman-Lott is really the only one,” Reid said. “He hurt his knee, and then we’ll get an MRI and see how he is tomorrow, (see) exactly what it is.”
The Chiefs can hardly afford an injury to Norman-Lott, who has struggled to stay healthy this season with ticky-tacky injuries. He’s clearly been the team’s best interior defensive lineman next to Chris Jones when he’s been on the field.
Asked later if there was an update on Smith, Reid expressed hope that it’s nothing serious.
“Yeah, I didn’t mention Trey (Smith),” Reid said. “Yeah, Trey’s back did lock up on him. So, we’ve got to see. Hopefully, there’s nothing, but you’re right. We’ll just see how he does.”
Reid did not have updates on others like Xavier Worthy, Jawaan Taylor, and Kareem Hunt, who each left the game at one point or another.
Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt toughed out an ankle injury in the Week 7 win
Patrick Mahomes threw a pop pass to Rashee Rice, which he took for a two-yard touchdown. Kareem Hunt was a lead blocker on the play and took some serious punishment from a Raiders defender who pushed him into another defender, who was behind him in pursuit. His ankles appeared to get pinned beneath him as he was folded backward on the play.
Hunt ultimately had to be helped off the field by Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who carried him off to the sideline. Hunt was then spotted trying to walk it off on the sideline alongside Chiefs’ head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.
Hunt did not receive a game status designation, and a special guest gave the CBS crew an update on his status.
Hunt returned to the game and had three carries for nine yards following the apparent ankle injury, but didn’t get any more carries after the 13-minute mark in the second quarter.
