Kansas City Chiefs’ first injury report for Week 1 vs. Denver Broncos previews hurdles they’ll need to overcome on Monday night
The Kansas City Chiefs will have a few injury-related challenges to overcome on “Monday Night Football” against the Denver Broncos. The first injury report of the season gives us a preview of that.
The Kansas City Chiefs have released their first injury report ahead of the season opener against the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football.”
While the team is relatively healthy heading into Week 1, they’re still missing a few players. Those players are starting LT Josh Simmons and starting SS Chamarri Conner. Both haven’t practiced since training camp because of their injuries.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the first injury reports for Week 1. Keep in mind that clubs can make additions to the injury report all the way up to Week 1’s kickoff on Monday. They will release game status designations on Saturday, Sept. 12.

| DB Chamarri Conner | Knee | DNP/ |
| LB Jack Cochrane | Knee | FP/ |
| DE Ashton Gillotte | Foot | FP/ |

| CB L’Jarius Sneed | Knee | FP/ |

| WR Xavier Worthy | Shoulder | FP/ |
| QB Patrick Mahomes | Knee | FP/ |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations
- Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid already confirmed that it’s unlikely that Simmons and Conner will play in Week 1. If they are to have a chance to play, both players will likely need at least one limited-participation practice before the week is over.
- Everyone else was listed as a full participant in practice on Thursday, including DE Ashton Gillotte. He hasn’t participated in practice since rupturing his plantar fascia in training camp.
- Rookie DE R Mason Thomas was back at practice in full after injuring his hamstring in practice last week.
- The majority of players listed on the injury report are at no risk of missing Week 1. Players like Rice, Smith, Sneed, Worthy, and Mahomes, for instance.
Denver Broncos’ Thursday injury report for Week 1
| Player | Injury | Thurs./Fri./Sat. |
|---|---|---|
| WR Marvin Mims Jr. | Foot | FP/ |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations
- The Broncos are about as healthy as they could possibly be. All 53 players on the roster participated in practice on Thursday. That’s been the case for the last several practices leading up to this game. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be at full strength, though. They have five players on IR and one on the Reserve/PUP list.
