Broderick Jones has long been the face of criticism along the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line. But if you watch his tape the last few weeks, you see a player who is finally rounding into form at his natural left tackle position.

That included the game on Thursday night, where Jones and the rest of the Steelers’ offensive line helped keep Aaron Rodgers clean as they drove the field to set up the go-ahead TD from Rodgers to Pat Freiermuth.

But after that huge score, the emotions were high, and Broderick Jones tackled his quarterback, which has led to a funny week of mixed messaging from the Steelers.

Steelers players, Mike Tomlin send mixed messaging on Broderick Jones tackle of Aaron Rodgers

“Yeah, he was a little mad,” Jones told the Steelers media via Mark Kaboly on X. “But, sorry, it’s football. It gets intense. It’s still no love lost. It’s just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me, ‘Don’t lose the fire,’ and I told him the same.”

Mike Tomlin pulled the classic “I don’t know what you’re talking about” move with the media on Tuesday, saying he had not watched the interaction between Jones and Rodgers despite the rest of the offensive line saying they laughed during a film session.

“I never saw it. I didn’t see it live. I didn’t see any replay. I heard about it. So I really don’t have a reaction,” said Tomlin on Tuesday via the Steelers YouTube channel. Either way, it was a funny wrinkle that obviously had Rodgers upset in real time.

“That’s Broderick, man,” added Troy Fautanu via Kaboly. “Can’t blame the guy. Like I said, it’s high emotions in the heat of the moment. We made a play. ‘Muth’ made a play and scored a touchdown. What can you say? Can’t get mad at the guy.”

We’ll see if Jones has a new way to celebrate with his 41-year-old signal caller the next time the two of them get together to recognize a great play on the offense.
