In his ninth NFL season, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is still in prime form.

He has rushed for 465 yards, recorded 516 receiving yards on 53 receptions, and totaled six touchdowns so far in 2025. His 981 yards from scrimmage are the most among all players in the NFL.

If McCaffrey can keep that pace up, he’ll be a frontrunner for Offensive Player of the Year. He is fresh off being named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Atlanta Falcons, when he became just the second player in league history with 450+ rushing yards and 450+ receiving yards during his first seven games of a season.

Christian McCaffrey can set three NFL records vs. Texans in Week 8

If McCaffrey can record at least five receptions and 100 scrimmage yards on Sunday, he will join retired running back Priest Holmes (2002 with the Kansas City Chiefs) and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen (2018 with the Minnesota Vikings) as the only players in NFL history to do so.

McCaffrey’s next record opportunity is a near certainty. With 35 rushing yards, he can join Hall of Fame RB Marshall Faulk (1998 with the Indianapolis Colts and 2000 with the St. Louis Rams) and Timmy Brown (1965 with the Philadelphia Eagles) as the only players in NFL history with at least 500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in their team’s first eight games of a season.

Finally, McCaffrey can become the fourth player in NFL history with at least 7,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards, joining Hall of Fame RB Marcus Allen and Faulk, as well as retired RB Tiki Barber. In order to do so, McCaffrey will have to rush for 148 yards and rack up 18 receiving yards against Houston’s defense.

McCaffrey setting all three of those records on Sunday would make for an epic performance. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities, and it would give the 49ers a great chance to get their sixth win of the season. The NFC West is a tight race so far this season, and San Francisco will be leaning on McCaffrey to secure its third division title in four years.
