Myles Garrett should once again be frustrated with the Cleveland Browns for a clear reason after losing to the Patriots

When special performances like that are wasted, some frustration is going to come out.

The Cleveland Browns went 70 yards on six plays on their opening drive in Week 8 against the New England Patriots, capping it off with a 17-yard touchdown pass from QB Dillon Gabriel to TE Harold Fannin Jr.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, that was the highlight of the day in its 32-13 loss to New England.

The theme of the Browns’ season has been one of the league’s best defenses trying to carry one of its worst offenses. That trend continued against the Patriots, as the offense once again failed to give the defense a chance. Even though the defense didn’t have its best overall performance, the Browns wasted a special outing from superstar DE Myles Garrett.

Myles Garrett’s career day wasted ahead of the bye week

Garrett became the player with the most sacks in NFL history by the age of 30 on Sunday with his first sack of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. He went on to record five sacks and a forced fumble, but it didn’t matter. The Browns failed to play anything resembling complementary football, and the offense turned the ball over twice on Gabriel interceptions.

“We got a win in a fashion which we can appreciate, but that’s not enough, and we gotta continue to do that,” Garrett said last week after the Browns beat the Miami Dolphins. “One win is one thing, but we’ve gotta turn this into a habit, an addiction. It’s gotta be an obsession to win and win like this. And so we gotta keep on chasing that feeling.”

The Browns didn’t turn that win over the Dolphins into a habit — or anything close to it. They beat a bad team last week and then reverted to looking like the same struggling group they’ve been all season against the Patriots, a well-coached team with a legitimate quarterback under center.

Garrett is now up to 10 sacks after notching four against New England, and the star pass rusher is well on his way to another All-Pro season. Games like Sunday, when Garrett dominates but the Browns fall flat, are frustrating for fans and Garrett.

At the end of the day, Garrett chose to sign a $40 million-per-season extension after requesting a trade last year. The Browns, meanwhile, still lack a franchise quarterback and show no clear direction toward improving the offense this season. Cleveland enters its bye week with a 2-5 record and will return to action on Nov. 9 at the New York Jets.
