Patrick Mahomes delivers urgent message to his teammates as Chiefs prepare for second half of season during bye week
There’s little room for error left for Kansas City in 2025.
The Kansas City Chiefs can’t seem to create significant separation from the .500 mark this season.
With their 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, the Chiefs are now 5-4 and currently on the outside looking in on the postseason.
They’ve played a difficult schedule up to this point, and it doesn’t get any easier the rest of the way. With more games now behind them then in front, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had words of urgency while speaking to the media following the team’s loss on Sunday.
Patrick Mahomes knows time is running out for the Chiefs to right the ship
“We got to learn from it, but got to do it now,” Mahomes said. “There’s no easy game coming up, and there’s no more chances that we can really take losses. We got to learn from it fast, and we got to be better as a team offensively. We got to be better, especially on some of those big drives we’ve had in the second half. I think we’ll just continue to push away and learn on this bye week, and then come back and be ready to play our best football coming off of it.”
Kansas City’s streak of nine straight AFC West championships is at a dangerous risk of coming to an end. The Chiefs trail the Denver Broncos by two games, and the Los Angeles Chargers by one. Mahomes knows the margin for error will be slim for K.C. for the rest of the season, and will likely need to win all remaining divisional games.
“We got a lot of good teams in our division that are playing really good football,” Mahomes continued. “We’re down at third place right now, so we got to get back and get ourselves right. We got to play better football. Right after the bye we’re playing Denver, so that’ll be a huge game for us. How can we respond with this bye week? We have to self-scout ourselves so that we can be better and go up against a tough division.”
