The New Orleans Saints have traded WR/returner Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2026 4th-round pick and a 2026 5th-round pick. With the move, there will expectedly be some social media reaction from players and fans, but the most notable one so far came from a fellow Saints playmaker.

Chris Olave is feeling all of the emotions after New Orleans made a difficult, but necessary, decision to move Shaheed – who was on an expiring contract.

Shortly after news broke that Shaheed was headed to the northeast, top Saints WR Chris Olave chimed in on social media. He told fellow former Ohio State star WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who now plays for the Seahawks, that they “got a great one” in Shaheed. He clearly held a lot of respect for his receiving teammate and friend.

There is no doubt that Olave is sad to see Shaheed go. The two have spent a bulk of their pro careers together and created a strong bond. Not to mention, they play a similar style of game – creating a dynamic duo of speed and elusiveness. Olave is not expected to get moved at today’s deadline.

As for Shaheed, he joins one of the elite offenses in the NFC. The Seahawks are fresh off a thrashing of the Washington Commanders in Week 9 and expect to contend in the postseason. As for the Saints, Olave will most likely have to stick around through another frustrating end to the season and an offseason of trade speculation. New Orleans hasn’t shown interest in moving on from Olave to this point.

Rather, the Saints and Olave have actually had consistent conversations about a contract extension, rather than a split. We will see how he feels by the time this season ends, without one of his key teammates on Kellen Moore’s offense. Regardless, the harsh reality of the NFL at the deadline has struck Olave in the heartstrings this year.
