Tell me if you’ve heard this before: the Buffalo Bills are battling through injury. Once again, one of the main talking points heading into the AFC East showdown between the Bills and Miami Dolphins centers on the availability of some big-name players.

On Wednesday, superstar running back James Cook did not practice. He’s been the MVP on the field, sometimes even outshining quarterback Josh Allen, and his potential absence could be devastating. Fortunately, the team got him back on the practice field on Thursday, a great sign that he may potentially play on Sunday. He’s not out of the woods yet, but it’s an exciting update for the fanbase.

If Cook were to miss time, expect a heavy dose of running backs Ray Davis and “the best third-down back in football,” according to Allen, in Ty Johnson.

Of note, Cook spoke with Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” and shared that he would be playing against Miami this week.

A lot of injuries and not a lot of time to work with

Cook wasn’t the only one who had missed practice on Wednesday, as a slew of important pieces were also absent. Defensive end Joey Bosa, defensive end A.J. Epenesa, nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, and linebacker Shaq Thompson were all out.

Cornerback Christian Benford, linebacker Terrel Bernard, and wide receiver Josh Palmer were limited.

On Thursday, Jones returned to practice for the first time since the Falcons game. Bosa and Johnson were available in some capacity after missing Wednesday. Unfortunately, there was no sight of Benford, Thompson, or Epenesa during the media portion. Palmer and Bernard got some work in once again, with fans hopeful one of Allen’s weapons will be available on Sunday.

Observations

Still a worrying sign for a handful of players, with Thompson, Epenesa, and Benford all unable to practice on Thursday. With only a few practices remaining, there are way too many names for the fan base’s liking. All that’s left to do is wait and see how many players will be missing time.

It’s not ideal, but it’s familiar territory for Buffalo. The Bills are battered again, but as we’ve seen before, they tend to fight best when their back is against the wall.
