Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland tragically died at the age of 24, the team announced on Thursday morning.

Many paid tribute to Kneeland following the news, but the NFL has asked that the late defensive end also be honored at the 12 games on Sunday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL “sent a memo to all teams Friday, asking them to hold a moment of silence Sunday as part of the pre-game ceremonies in memory of the late Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.”

“The moment of silence will be followed by a message read in all NFL stadiums that says,” he added. “If you or someone you know is struggling or needs emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24-7 to help.”

The Cowboys have a Week 10 bye but will return to the field on Nov. 17 to face the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kneeland was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. Across his collegiate career, he earned second-team All-MAC honors in 2023 after finishing the season with a career-high 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and eight quarterback hurries.

Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons open up with heartfelt messages following the news of their teammate’s passing

Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons both spent time with Kneeland as members of the Cowboys. And the two stars spoke out following news of his passing.

“Marshawn’s a guy who loved his anime, loved his video games like anybody else,” Parsons said. “To me, he always showed me nothing but respect from the moment he came into the locker room.

“He respected me as a player; he respected me as a person. So, I have nothing but high respect for him. If there’s anything his family needs, I’ll be the first person to help or offer anything I can do to offer a person. I just hope that he finds his peace and his family peace in the situation.”

Prescott had similar sentiments.

“I hurt. Heavy, heavy heart today,” Prescott told CBS News Texas. “I hurt for Marshawn, I hurt for his family, I hurt for his girlfriend, and I hurt for every single one of my teammates. This is a pain you don’t wish upon anybody.”
