The Miami Hurricanes have had a very good weekend, notching a 38-10 win over the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon. Upset home losses by Virginia and Louisville further helped the Canes’ cause to get back into the ACC and College Football Playoff races.

Now, Miami got more good news over the weekend. 2026 four-star safety James (JJ) Dunnigan, Jr. announced that he committed to the Hurricanes.

Four-star safety JJ Dunnigan commits to the Miami Hurricanes

Dunnigan is from Kansas State’s backyard in Manhattan, Kansas, which is a bit ironic as he was a Kansas commitment previously. He has good size at 6’2″, 200 pounds and he checks in as the #140 overall player, #13 safety, and #2 player in the state of Kansas for the 2026 cycle. He holds offers from a number of Power Four schools, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Ole Miss, Florida, and several others.

He gives Mario Cristobal a much-needed boost on the defensive side of the ball in his 2026 recruiting class, which currently sits at tenth in On3/Rivals rankings. At #140 overall, he becomes Miami’s highest rated defensive commitment and the Hurricanes’ sixth four-star defensive back in the class.

As such, the Hurricanes appear to be in good shape in both talent and quality depth in their secondary for years to come.
