Following one of the most embarrassing losses in recent Pittsburgh Steelers memory, Mike Tomlin, T.J. Watt, and Aaron Rodgers all took to the podium to answer questions from the media before packing up and heading back to Pittsburgh.

It was clear not only on their faces, but in their responses, how sick they were with the product they put on that field. That was especially true of Tomlin and Rodgers, who got snappy with the media more than a few times during their pressers.

But Tomlin’s response to a question about Rodgers takes the cake and shows how on edge the Steelers are right now.

“How would you? Next question,” answered Mike Tomlin via the Steelers YouTube channel when asked how he would assess the play of Aaron Rodgers against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

It was a snappy response from a clearly dejected Tomlin, and it was the first of many from the HC-QB combo in Pittsburgh.

“I’m not lacking confidence. I don’t need a pat on the back. We stunk it up tonight. We’ll be back. I’m not trying to frame it in any way. I’m just telling you guys what happened, you guys write the narrative,” added Tomlin.

Never have I seen Tomlin so visibly upset after a loss. His responsive nature tends to mirror the result of the game that week or night. However, you could tell he was downright embarrassed with what his team showed, and he let it boil over with the media.

“Guys, when you’re 0-9 or 0-10 on third down, you’re not gonna have enough snaps. We have been over that discussion a lot,” said Tomlin when asked if he wanted to run the ball more.

But what about Rodgers? Surely, he was more accommodating, right?

“Schematically…We’re always making changes schematically,” said Rodgers with a long pause to show some restraint when asked if the offense was changing things up in terms of Xs and Os, but he wasn’t done yet.

“No,” added Rodgers with a laugh when asked if there was a different energy coming from the Chargers. “Just sometimes in the game you’re not going to win. It’s one of those days where we just couldn’t quite get over the hump and get some first downs.”

Winning cures all. The Steelers sit atop the AFC North with a one-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens, and everything in front of them, but it’s clear that they aren’t happy internally, and that’s starting to show.
