The Miami Dolphins woke up this morning from the comfort of their own beds, ready to attack the debriefing of their Week 10 victory against the Buffalo Bills. They’ll be hopping on a plane and flying to Madrid in advance of a Week 11 date with the Washington Commanders this upcoming Sunday in pursuit of their first back-to-back wins of the season. They’ll do so with a pair of good breaks already in hand with personnel.

Miami already knows that quarterback Jayden Daniels will miss this contest after an ugly dislocated elbow injury. He’s set to be “reassessed” during the team’s bye week after their matchup with the Dolphins. But the Dolphins will go about the rest of their week of prep with knowledge of several more Commanders players who will be sitting this matchup out for one reason or another.

Daron Payne suspended, Terry McLaurin ruled out of Week 11 matchup versus Dolphins

To go with the absence of Daniels, Washington will be without one of their best defenders, defensive tackle Daron Payne. Payne was involved in an on-field altercation with Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and threw a blatant punch that landed on Detroit’s star pass catcher. He was promptly ejected from the game, and the league office swiftly delivered a lengthy statement on Monday announcing that he was suspended for the game against Miami. He is eligible to return to the active roster the day after the contest against the Dolphins.

He’ll be joined by Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin on the list of prominent Washington players who will miss this contest. Washington head coach Dan Quinn disclosed on Monday that McLaurin would travel with the team but not play on Sunday against Miami.

Dolphins players expected back in the mix for Week 11, per head coach Mike McDaniel

  • CB Rasul Douglas
  • TE Julian Hill
  • SAF Ashtyn Davis
  • EDGE Chop Robinson

It’s a far cry from what Miami is used to — being the less injured of the two teams on any given week. The Dolphins will likely still lay claim to the more injured team; they’re without WR Tyreek Hill, the right side of their offensive line, and starting cornerback Kader Kohou. But many of the players Miami was missing in Sunday’s win versus the Bills, including starting tight end Julian Hill and 2024 first-round pass rusher Chop Robinson, are expected to be back in the fray per head coach Mike McDaniel.

McDaniel also left the door open for someone on the team’s reserve lists to have their activation window opened for practice. That could be starting right guard James Daniels or right tackle Austin Jackson. It could be depth lineman Andrew Meyer. Or it could be kicker Jason Sanders. Perhaps it will be none.

But the Dolphins will progress into this week of prep knowing that their opponent will be without Jayden Daniels, without Terry McLaurin, and without Daron Payne. Let’s see what kind of game plan they can cook up to get after the replacements on the heels of a massive win against the Bills.
