Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning and his younger brother Eli have had some tremendous guests on the ManningCast since the show’s debut in 2021.
From Charles Barkley and Snoop Dogg to John Legend and Randy Moss, the guest list for the ManningCast over the last four years has been a who’s who of the most famous names in sports and entertainment (and even politics in a couple of cases).
There’s one guest you might expect to see with Peyton and Eli on the ManningCast, though, who apparently has no desire to ever be on the show.
Why one of Peyton Manning’s favorite people on the planet doesn’t want to be a guest on the ManningCast
Outside of Peyton and Eli’s dad, Archie Manning — who has been a guest on the ManningCast before — there aren’t many people on the planet who have had a bigger influence on the Manning brothers than former Tennessee offensive coordinator and Ole Miss/Duke head coach David Cutcliffe
Cutcliffe, however, has no desire to be a guest on the ManningCast.
The former Tennessee assistant coach explained why on Tuesday during his weekly appearance on The George Plaster Show.
“I don’t want to because I don’t want to put them — they’ve had too many other coaches that were their coaches along the way with that long pro career,” said Cutcliffe. “I don’t want them to feel obligated to have to ask anybody else.
“We kind of have our own Manning/Cutcliffe-cast more than you might know. It’s an interesting thing — I get asked that a lot. And I just tell them, ‘No, that’s a mutual agreement.’ Because I like the kind of non football guests when they do that, or a current player. I think that makes it bit more interesting for me.”
Hopefully Cutcliffe and the Mannings change their minds in the future. Cutcliffe is one of the most insightful football minds in the world, and it would be great to hear his perspective alongside Peyton and Eli during a Monday Night Football game.
But I also understand where the ever-wise and ever-considerate Cutcliffe is coming from.
