Cooper Kupp will forever be etched in the lore of the Los Angeles Rams. A 2021 season that saw him not only win the triple crown, but a Super Bowl MVP, he played one of the biggest hands in the Rams most recent championship.

But after a few years of reloading, the Rams are back in the mix as a contender, and they might be the favorite. Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks may prove as much, as arguably the two best teams in the NFC, if not the sport, square off.

But there’s another storyline making headlines: the return of Cooper Kupp to Los Angeles. A return both he and the Rams are going above and beyond for.

Cooper Kupp is putting in overtime for return to Los Angeles

“It’ll be mixed emotions,” Kupp told the Los Angeles Times. “I have so much gratitude for the people there. But I’m going down there to play a game. I’ve spent countless hours preparing to beat that team.”

Kupp made his return to the field last week after missing time over the last month with various lower-body injuries. He only caught two passes, but he ended the game with 72 yards receiving, the second-highest total of his time in Seattle. You better believe he will be aiming to impact this game, even if his trick is going above and beyond, just as the Rams will be in his return…

“This is where I grew up, my wife’s home, but it’s not where our home was,” added Kupp. “We built something cool in L.A., raised our boys there. That was home. We’ll always want to be in L.A. in some capacity. We’re making home here now, but it’s seven months versus 8½ years there.”

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has taken over not only the No.1 role within the Seahawks’ WR room, but arguably the NFL. He has a league-leading 1,041 receiving yards through just nine games. He is averaging an NFL-best 115 yards receiving per game. A coincidence that his breakout season happened after Kupp joined? I don’t think so.

“Here, there are younger guys getting significant reps,” said Kupp. “I can be more of a voice, sharing processes, things that have helped me. The coaches have been great. My goal is to be a multiplier, to lift people up, to get us all on the same page at a high level.”

We’ll see if he powers the Seahawks to victory, or if the Rams can stake their claim as the best team in the NFL.
