Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young briefly left the game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday with an ankle injury but has since returned to the game.

Young’s injury occurred during the first quarter of Sunday’s game on the team’s second offensive possession. On third-and-six, Young was sacked by Falcons safety Billy Bowman Jr. who came in unblocked and brought Young down awkwardly.

Young was helped off the field and went into the locker room where he was listed as questionable to return. But, the team’s QB1 was back out there for the team’s third offensive drive of the game.

Back in Week 7, Young suffered a high ankle sprain against the New York Jets that forced him out of action for one game before returning to the lineup in Week 9. Panthers veteran backup quarterback Andy Dalton finished the game for Carolina in Week 7 and started in Week 8.

Young’s return is fortunate news considering the Panthers had a stellar opening drive to start the game. Young was 7/8 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown in the opening drive hitting three passes of 10+ yards on that drive and capping it off with a touchdown to rookie WR Tetairoa McMillan.

Going into the week, the Panthers aimed to get the downfield passing attack going against this Falcons defense and it was a promising start to the game until Young went down. Now that he’s back on the field, that area of the game is something Carolina would like to keep going strong.

We’ll have to wait until after the game to get an update on the full extent of Young’s injury when head coach Dave Canales speaks with the media. But, for the time being it’s great to see Young back out on the field.
