Coming out of Week 12 of the college football season with a 10-0 record was all the Ohio State Buckeyes hoped to accomplish, and they did just that with a 48-10 win over the UCLA Bruins on Saturday evening in Columbus.

Ohio State entered the game without WR Carnell Tate, who is dealing with an undisclosed but reportedly minor injury. The Buckeyes also had WR Jeremiah Smith listed as questionable, and he played just over one quarter before shutting it down for the night. Ohio State valued being cautious with its top pass-catchers, especially in matchups it could handle without much trouble. The Buckeyes did exactly that, though an injury scare likely caused some fans to hold their breath.

Julian Sayin provides positive update on what appeared to be an ankle or foot injury

Ohio State’s starting quarterback made a trip to the injury tent on Saturday after coming up limping from a hit on third down in the first half. Sayin appeared to land awkwardly and was checked out briefly before returning to the game.

“Just ended up stepping on it a little bit weird, but I’m feeling good now,” Sayin said after the game. “Not too bad, just stepped on it a little bit weird.”

Sayin faced a different challenge against UCLA without his top two wideouts available. The Heisman Trophy contender finished 23-of-31 for 184 yards and a touchdown. Ohio State’s leading receivers were sophomore Mylan Graham and Smith, who each recorded 40 yards. Brandon Innis and Bryson Rodgers combined for five catches as they stepped up to help the Buckeyes move the ball through the air.

“I was able to step into all my throws with power,” Sayin added. “I had a couple misses tonight mechanically. I wasn’t super perfect with those, but I was able to step into all my throws.”

Next up is Rutgers, the Buckeyes’ final home game of the season. Ohio State will continue to be cautious with how it handles injuries. The major showdown with the Michigan Wolverines is right around the corner — a game in which the Buckeyes will need to be at full strength. Though it looked concerning at first, Sayin ultimately dodged the injury bullet.
