Shedeur Sanders made his debut in the second half of Cleveland’s Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens after Dillon Gabriel exited to be evaluated for a concussion. The Browns fell 23-16 and dropped to 2-8 on the season.

Sanders played the entire second half after Gabriel was checked for a concussion at halftime, when Cleveland led 16-10. The Browns didn’t score after the break, and their lone touchdown came on a 23-yard interception returned by LB Devin Bush. Cleveland controlled much of the game against a strong Ravens team, but their biggest issue surfaced again: the offense.

Shedeur Sanders takes the blame for the loss to the Ravens

Sanders was dealt a difficult situation, entering against a division rival without having taken reps with the starters. The rookie fifth-round pick finished 4-of-16 for 43 yards and an interception. He was sacked twice and also fumbled once, though Wyatt Teller recovered it. After the game, Sanders took a professional approach and tried to shoulder the blame in the locker room.

“He spoke after the game and he wanted to pin it on himself and his performance, but we’re not going to allow him to do that. It’s a team game,” Myles Garrett said. “We’re all in this together.”

Garrett and the defense did their part, with the star pass rusher now up to 15 sacks on the season — four of them coming Sunday. Cleveland’s defense forced two interceptions from Lamar Jackson and played well enough to beat Baltimore. But once again, the lack of complementary football and a scoreless second half doomed the Browns.

There’s a chance Sanders can quickly bounce back, as he may start next weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders. With Gabriel in the concussion protocol, he’ll need to clear multiple steps ahead of the West Coast road trip. Sanders would also benefit from a full week of preparation with the offense. Cleveland fans rallied around Sanders when he entered Sunday’s game. He didn’t deliver, and that’s understandable for a fifth-round rookie thrust into a difficult spot for his debut. All eyes now turn to how he responds if he gets the call next week.
